Sean Rigg scored twice in a rare start as a striker as Vale secured a fine away victory at Barnet.
Rigg was one of several changes to the Vale starting line-up as Micky Adams brought in Gareth Owen and Clayton McDonald as the Valiants lined up with three centre-halfs. Stuart Tomlinson started in goal.
Doug Loft and Adam Yates both went close before Rigg’s fantastic 25-yard strike put the Valiants ahead.
Then Gary Roberts doubled the lead before the break when he smashed the ball high into the far corner of the net.
Rigg’s 18-yard drive made the game safe for Vale before Barnet’s Jason Price completed the scoring with a close-range header.
Vale could easily have made it four, but Louis Dodds saw a one-on-one saved with Anthony Griffith unable to put away the rebound.
Vale: Tomlinson, Yates, Collins, McCombe, Owen, McDonald, Roberts (Dodds), Griffith, Loft, Rigg (Williamson), Pope
