Dean Glover leaves Port Vale: former Port Vale manager Dean Glover has left the club, having turned down a youth coaching role following the end of his reign as manager.
Glover announced his intention to stand down at the end of the season after an unsuccessful spell as manager.
The former defender has spent 19 years at Vale Park as player, coach and manager, has chosen to move on and have the final 12 month of his contract paid up.
Glover told the official Port Vale website: “Having thought about it I’ve decided to move on and seek a new challenge.”
As Dean Glover leaves Port Vale here’s how his spell progressed…
February 1989: Glover joins John Rudge’s side for a then club record £200,000. He helps the club to promotion through the play-offs.
May 1993: Glover becomes the first Port Vale captain to lift a domestic trophy at Wembley after Port Vale beat Stockport County in the Autoglass Trophy final.
May 1998: Glover departs after 431 appearances for the club. He has a brief spell with Kidderminster Harriers.
1999: Glover has a brief spell as a Port Vale coach under Brian Horton.
2004: He returns as assistant manager to Martin Foyle. It includes a spell as caretaker manager in 2007.
Oct 2008: Glover takes over as manager following the departure of Lee Sinnott. However, his reign is not successful and he announces his intention to stand down at the end of the 2008-2009 season.
May 2009: He confirms he will be leaving the Valiants.
