Birchall hours from first cap

Chris Birchall is set to follow Tony Rougier in becoming only the second Port Vale player this Millennium to take part in a senior, full International match as he prepares to line-up for Trinidad and Tobago this weekend

Vale have had little International recognition recently, George Abbey was a non-playing Nigerian squad player, Steve McPhee played for Scotland U21’s, Danny Sonner has lost his Northern Ireland squad place and injury saw Steve Rowland miss out on a call-up for Wales U21.

But Birchall, like Rougier during his spell at Vale Park, will be expected to line-up for the Trinidad and Tobago side in their World Cup qualifying game against Panama in Port of Spain on Saturday.

The Vale youngster has played three friendly warm-up games for T&T and has reportedly impressed in a central midfield role.

Now, he could make his full debut alongside Trinidad legend Dwight Yorke, Crewe goalkeeper Clayton Ince and Wrexham duo Dennis Lawrence and Carlos Edwards.

All at wish Chris all the very best this weekend…
