Port Vale sign Dean Smith: veteran defender Dean Smith has agreed a 12-month contract with the Valiants after impressing while on trial at the club.

The 33 year-old defender has amassed over 650 games in a career that has taken in Walsall, Hereford, Leyton Orient and Sheffield Wednesday.
A product of the Black Country, Smith was appointed club captain at Hillsborough last season and was an ever-present in the league until chicken pox ruled him out of action.
He battled back to return to the side by Christmas and missed only two more games for the remainder of the season. With over 650 senior appearances to his name he will offer considerable experience to the Port Vale backline.
