Port Vale sign Jonny Brain
Port Vale sign Jonny Brain: the Valiants have signed free agent goalkeeper Jonathan Brain on a short-term deal.
Port Vale manager Brian Horton has added the 20-year-old as cover in the absence of the injured first-choice goalkeeper Mark Goodlad.
The former Nottingham Forest keeper underwent an operation at the end of last season but now requires a further procedure that will sideline him for nearly twelve weeks. At the time of the injury Horton commented: “If anything happened to Dean Delaney I would have to go out and get a loan keeper and I have already made one or two enquiries just in case.”
As cover, young keeper Brain has agreed a short-team contract with the Valiants. He is likely to be in the Port Vale squad for the game against Hartlepool United.
Horton told the official Port Vale website: “We’ve got two games coming up over the weekend and if Dean Delaney gets a knock we could be in trouble up at Hartlepool on Monday.
“Johnny has had some experience of league football and he has impressed me this week in training.”
Brain began his football career as a trainee with Carlisle United. He moved on to Newcastle United but never made a first-team appearance for the club. He then returned to Carlisle United but again failed to make a first-team appearance for the side.
